Chocolate cherry oatmeal

Simple, quick, wholesome, nutritious and delicious? What's not to love?

I talked about all types of oats in this article:

Details that make a difference (#4) Oat groats

This recipe I'm sharing today uses rolled oats, but it can be adapted to use any kind of oats adjusting the time of cooking depending on the type of oats.

🌿 1 cup rolled oats

🌿 1 Tbsp cacao powder

🌿 1 cup unsweetened non dairy milk

🌿 1 cup water

🌿 1 cup chopped banana

🌿 1 cup frozen cherries

🌿 toppings (optional): nuts (walnuts, pecans, cashews..), seeds (hemp, chia, flax..), cacao nibs..

Rolled oats cook very quickly, they can be cooked in about 10 minutes or a few more minutes for a creamier result.

I like to use cacao powder because that's the most nutritious form of chocolate, but cocoa powder also works great in this recipe. Something to note is that cacao powder is a bit bitter than cocoa powder.

The amount of banana and cherries can be adjusted, it does not have to be an exact cup of each.

The recipe is very simple, just mix everything, once it starts to boil bring the heat down and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes stirring occasionally.

Once the cherries start to soften, break them a bit using your stirring spoon to release some of their juice.

Use your favorite toppings and have fun decorating your bowl :–)

If you like your oatmeal a bit more on the sweet side, add a drizzle of maple syrup.
